The Shrinking Middle Class

The Minimum Laws Why is the middle class shrinking? What about me?

Minimum Wage
What's up with that crazy minimum wage, anyway? It's not like anybody could actually live on that, could they? Could you? What if you had to live on it some day? Plus, it's dragging our salaries downward.

Minimum Vacation
Our favorite paycheck party proposal guarantees anyone who works 30 paid vacation days a year, plus holidays. Could save the travel industry in one fell swoop and reduce unemployment drastically.

Minimum Health Care
If 47 million people are working their rear ends off for bosses too cheap to buy them health care insurance, then why not pass a law making it illegal to not give it to them? No more deductions from your paycheck, either. Not in the paycheck party way of doing things!

Minimum Severance Pay
Severance pay is the money bosses get when they quit or get fired for doing an even crappier job than they usually do. It's time to give this great benefit to everyone else in the company, too. Not just the boss and his buddies, but all of us.

Minimum Pension Plan
Why privatize social security when it works fine just the way it is. Sure, it's not enough money to live on, but that's where a law requiring businesses to save money for when you are ready to retire for you is needed. And you keep it even if you quit or get fired, too.

It's really hard to complain about things when you are spending money and running up your credit cards and generally pretty secure in your job but never really getting ahead. The shrinking middle class needs the paycheck party to cushion the fall to poor if disaster strikes. And of all the different kinds of people the paycheck party will help, the middle class is the one that will understand it first.

The poor won't trust it and have long since given up on voting anyway. The upper middle class are too smug, arrogant and self absorbed to think they'll ever need it. The bosses have them fooled into thinking that they are one of them, see. But anyone in the middle knows they don't have that far to fall before they are wishing they'd voted for the guy who promised them a living wage for a minimum wage, because they know that if they had to go out and get a minimum wage job tomorrow they would lose their house, their cars, their comforts, and be out on the streets wondering what on earth to do with their shattered lives.

But here in the rapidly shrinking middle class we know exactly what the paycheck party is; it's us. If it weren't for all the thousands of families slipping from middle class down to poverty class every day we'd still be the majority of the people in this country. But the bosses and politicians know that somebody is going to have to pay for all those slobbering greedy boss salaries and all the enormous honking taxes they need to levy to pay for the pork barrel projects that line our bosses pockets. And guess who's the piggy bank they've been raiding all these years? Ours!

Ask your boss what happened to those nice pensions your parents and grandparents got? Ask your Senator what happened to all that tax money he brought home to your state? It went to the bosses, didn't it? "Creating Jobs" is the lie they use whenever they bring back a fat pork barrel appropriation of middle class tax money to your state, and it means "Creating a handful of minimum wage jobs, a buttload of jobs to outsource to China, India and Mexico., and a huge amount of money for the bosses and all his little buddies at the trough".

But don't even click on any of the links above
if you think it's getting pretty obvious that no matter who you think you are, you are just a person who gets up and goes to work every day and is tired of being ignored by your own elected officials. I hope you are starting to get the idea that 'divide and conquer' is the simple and effective strategy that the politicians and bosses have been using for years to keep us confused about what they should be doing for us.
